The Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Division computing environment is a heterogeneous environment which supports several Unix architectures (Compaq Alpha, Sun, SGI, and Linux on Intel platforms) and Windows 2000. At the core of this environment are file and data servers that serve data out to the desktops. In addition, there are several, high-performance systems that provide computational resources to specific projects and web servers that provide information about the division to the community. The System Management Group (SMG) is responsible for the daily operations of the MMM computing environment, in addition to researching, evaluating, and implementing new technologies that will benefit the scientific and administrative activities in the division. The SMG works with the Computing Advisory Committee to establish divisional computing priorities, policies, and long-range strategic planning and budgeting for future acquisitions.
